About New Hope Methodist Church
Established in 1845, New Hope continues to provide ministry in the Wesleyan tradition to the Field Store Community in Waller County, TX.
Who We Are
We are a Global Methodist Church community built upon the truth of God's revelation in Jesus Christ, his life, death and atonement, and miraculous resurrection. We are a Bible-teaching church that believes in multi-cultural, multi-generational worship, but most of all - we're a family.
How We Worship
Every week at 9:00am we praise and worship our Lord! We are a multigenerational church that worships in the Wesleyan tradition with a mixture of traditional and contemporary practices. We have a band each week that plays a mixture of hymns and worship music, we incorporate liturgy and creeds each week such as the Apostle's Creed and the Gloria Patri, and we preach sermons that are biblical and practical to everyday life.
Where We Serve
We aim to be a church focused not only on coming together in worship but being the hands and feet of Jesus as the Body of Christ. We serve those in our church family, those in the Field Store Community through our support of FSES and W.A.R.M. We service our greater Houston area through our work with Kairos Outside prison ministries, and we are happy to sponsor four students in Zimbabwe through One Child International.
Our Mission
At the very core of our church lies the belief that God called men and women of all races, creeds, and walks of life to be united as one family under one Father through Jesus Christ. (Eph. 4:5)
How do we accomplish that? It begins with the understanding that, from the very origins of Christianity, we were called to be “brothers and sisters” in Christ. That means caring for one another, being real with one another, growing, hurting, and living life with one another. Through worship, bible study, service, missions, fellowship, and plenty of great meals, we believe that the mission of New Hope Methodist church is to bring the people of the Field Store Community and Waller County, TX together as one family in Jesus Christ, our Lord.
What does that look like? It begins with focusing upon the call of the Gospel message to “love God”, “love neighbor”, and “love self” (Mt 22:37-39). For us, that means worshipping the Lord as a community and studying His word, honoring our brothers and sisters by serving our church community and those less fortunate than our own (Mt 25:40), and learning to delight in ourselves as God delights in us (Mk 1:11).
Our Vision
We long to grow in discipleship and service as we bring the Wesleyan message of sanctification and holiness to the world. (Mt. 5:48)
We live this out each day by committing ourselves to act as Christ acted to those around him, responding to those around us with the fruit of the spirit, and by endeavoring to care for the needy, feed the hungry, and clothe the poor. As we endeavor to do this we walk with humility and the understanding that we are not perfect – far from it – but by our faith in God and the guidance of the Holy Spirit we are able to walk a path of personal and communal holiness.
Most of all, we believe that the church doesn’t exist inside of these walls. We simply come to our building to “give thanks” and be “fed our daily bread” so that we might go forth and be the Body of Christ redeemed by his blood for the world to see.
WHAT DO WE BELIEVE?
God
We understand of God as a Trinity—three persons in one: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. God, who is one, is revealed in three distinct persons. God is transcendent (over and beyond all that is), yet at the same time immanent (present in everything). God is omnipresent (everywhere at once), omnipotent (all-powerful), and omniscient (all-knowing). God is absolute, infinite, righteous, just, loving, merciful…and more.
The Bible
We believe that the Bible is God’s Word and is the primary authority for our faith and practice.
Faith and Good Works
Faith and good works belong together. What we believe must be confirmed by what we do. Personal salvation must be expressed in ministry and mission in the world. We believe that Christian doctrine and Christian ethics are inseparable, that faith should inspire service. The integration of personal piety and social holiness has been a hallmark of our tradition. We affirm the biblical precept that “faith by itself, if it has no works, is dead” (James 2:17).
Jesus
We believe in the mystery of salvation through Jesus Christ. God became human in Jesus of Nazareth; and his life, death, and resurrection demonstrates God’s redeeming love
The Kingdom of God
The kingdom or reign of God is both a present reality and future hope.
The Holy Spirit
The Holy Spirit is God’s present activity in our midst. When we sense God’s leading, God’s challenge, or God’s support or comfort, it’s the Holy Spirit at work.
The Gift of Grace
Grace can be defined as the love and mercy given to us by God because God wants us to have it, not because of anything we have done to earn it. We read in the Letter to the Ephesians: “For by grace you have been saved through faith, and this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God — not the result of works, so that no one may boast” (Ephesians 2:8-9).
